Case 106: Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE)

Diagnostic Category:

Clinical Presentation:

51 year old man presents with known HCC after treatment.

CT: Concentrated lipiodol deposition within the mass.

Imaging Findings:

Images of unenhanced CT adjusted to bone window show cirrhosis and the typical appearance of HCC located in segment 2 after transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). Lipiodol deposition within the mass (arrow, first image) is more concentrated than within adjacent parenchyma in segment 4A (arrowhead, first image), in segment 3 and 4B (arrowheads, second and third images). Notice also the gallbladder edema (coronal image), a common side effect of TACE.
