Case 11:   Amiodarone

Diagnostic Categories:

Clinical Presentation:

60 year old asymptomatic woman, nine years under amiodarone medication for atrial fibrillation and history of mitral valve repair. Abnormal pulmonary function tests prompted this CT of the chest to evaluate pulmonary amiodarone toxicity.

CT: Dense liver parenchyma

Imaging Findings:

Unenhanced CT shows higher than normal attenuation of the liver due to iodine deposition from long standing amiodarone medication. Liver is not cirrhotic. Attenuation coefficient of hepatic parenchyma is 90HU (45-70HU is considered normal), blood pool is 45HU (normal).
