Case 341:   Focal Nodular Hyperplasia (FNH)

Diagnostic Category:

Clinical Presentation:

47 year old woman with history of dermatofibrosarcoma of the groin and liver lesion on imaging done for staging.

CT: Non specific features on CT

Imaging Findings:

Portal venous phase CT shows an ill defined subcapsular hypodense lesion in segment 5/8.  Imaging findings are nonspecific, but biopsy showed focal nodular hyperplasia. When compared to MR it is obvious that the hypodensity on CT reflects only a small portion of the entire lesion, which is actually bigger than suggested on this CT. The more vascular portions of the FNH are isodense to liver on this portal venous phase and therefore not discernible from the surrounding parenchyma.
