Case 48:   Echinococcosis, alveolar

Diagnostic Category:

Clinical Presentation:

69 year old man with right upper abdominal pain.

CT: Infiltrative

Imaging Findings:

Aggressive manifestation of alveolar echinococcosis in mainly the right lobe. The infection is causing largely hypodense areas of necrosis with focal calcifications, destroying normal hepatic parenchyma. Peripheral and heterogeneous enhancement of the infected areas are mainly composed of granulation tissue. Growth pattern is locally infiltrative, mimicking malignant neoplasm.
