Case 6:   Abscess (pyogenic)

Clinical Presentation:

64 year old African American man with Ig A Kappa monoclonal gammopathy who presented with abdominal pain and tenderness.

CT: Unilocular, with perifocal edema and contained perforation

Imaging Findings:

Pyogenic liver abscess, confirmed on exploratory laparotomy, which revealed gram positive cocci.  CT shows a unilocular subacute liver abscess in segment 4 of the left lobe with a thin capsule, surrounding hypodense edema and focal contained rupture superiorly (see coronal reconstruction). Mild pericardial effusion.
