Case 97:   Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC)

Diagnostic Category:

Clinical Presentation:

51 year old woman presents with abdominal pain and jaundice.

CT: Hypovascular HCC

Imaging Findings:

Multiphase CT demonstrates multiple hypovascular HCC, the largest in segment 3, not demonstrating typical hypervascularity. The hypovascularity is probably due to persistence of the ductus venosus (see final three images), congenital absence of the left portal vein, and associated altered hepatic vascularity.  Note the presence of cirrhosis.  Biopsy showed well differentiated HCC.
