Case list for Schistosomiasis (Bilharzia)

CT demonstrates cirrhosis and typical fibrosis within the portal triads due to Schistosomiasis, which causes narrowing of the portal veins intrahepatically. Note that portal venous phase CT shows fibrotic tissue elements as hypovascular, while fibrotic enhancement would be typically seen on equilibrium phase, which was not available.

CT shows cirrhosis due to hepatic schistosomiasis. Note prominent hypodense and hypovascular periportal tracts secondary to severe periportal fibrosis. Equilibrium phase would typically show delayed periportal contrast enhanced (not available). Intrahepatically small caliber portal venous branches due to encasement by periportal fibrosis. Shrunken right hepatic lobe. Status post splenectomy (splenule).
